The Challenge
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), a globally recognized leader in fire prevention codes, standards, and public safety, has long been committed to providing educational training and seminars. With the advent of digital learning, NFPA ventured into online education, seeking innovative ways to make their self-guided online courses more interactive and engaging. The primary objective was to find a creative partner capable of translating the dynamic energy of their in-person classes into the digital realm, thereby enriching the eLearning experience for safety standards training.
The solution
Transitioning in-person training sessions to online platforms presents a significant challenge, particularly in eLearning development. Designing Digitally, Inc. collaborated closely with NFPA’s subject matter experts (SMEs) to distill and transform the content and learning goals of NFPA’s classroom materials into a comprehensive online training curriculum. This initiative focused explicitly on NFPA standard 13, which pertains to installing sprinkler systems.
Designing Digitally, Inc. embarked on a meticulous needs analysis process, developing six eLearning modules, each designed to be completed in approximately one hour. These modules meticulously cover various aspects of the NFPA 13 Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, targeting professionals involved in designing, reviewing, evaluating, or installing water-based fire protection systems. This includes designers, installers, engineers, electrical contractors, technicians, project managers, fire marshals, and architects.
The online eLearning modules allow NFPA to extend its training program to a broader audience. This digital transformation has been met with considerable success, primarily due to the program’s ability to integrate cognitive learning experiences that can be accessed anytime and anywhere. As a result, professionals can now learn and obtain certification on the NFPA 13 Standards through these meticulously designed online modules.
